Healing the Hurt

About mid-November, one of my clients reached out to me and ordered a pet portrait as a gift to a colleague of his who recently lost his beloved Donnie, a sweet, handsome grey Frenchie. He was able to keep this surprise a secret as I got to work. The finished painting turned out so very great, and I have been eager to hear from my client what his colleague thought of the painting.

With the holidays over and January well underway, I reached out to my client, curious about what his colleague thought of the gift. Today, I received word from my client about what his colleague said. He emailed me a screen shot of a text conversation. Here is what the recipient of the gift said:

Thank you so much, this is the nicest gift ever! It’s still been so hard not having Donnie around. This painting brings a huge smile to my face. It’s crazy how much it looks just like him. When I look at the painting, it makes me feel like I’m looking at Donnie. It is really special. The way the artist painted the chest hair and his face really makes it spot on, 100% Donnie.

Even the little wrinkles Donnie had on his neck, the artist included! Donnie was my best friend - and meant the world to me. The loss of him still hurts, but this painting puts a smile on my face.

Hearing these stories is exactly why I do what I do. I am so pleased my client’s colleague loved the painting. With each pet portrait memorial painting, my goal is to heal the hurt… even a little and to honor our furry family members who are no longer with us.
