Bowl

I have always loved old signs. My designer brain flips out when I see vintage neon signs. So, I am working on a collection of work that embodies those amazing, old neon signs. What intrigues me most about this body of work is the juxtaposition of the sign and the cloudscape behind them. I love how the clouds look brooding and ferocious and yet, it is crystal blue sky above. I love how worn the sign looks. You can imagine how many passersby pointed to the sign, or walked by, or even went bowling.

Working on this body of work is refreshing, and a great way for me to keep painting when I am waiting for commissions to dry. These paintings allow me to fully embrace my ‘painterly realistic’ style. I always want my painting to look realistic, but never want it to look like a photo. Because of this, I try and capture great detail with the brushstrokes still visible.

I want these paintings to look different from 16 feet and 4 feet away. At 16 feet from the painting, you see crisp details. Move up to 4 feet or closer and those crisp details melt into beautiful brushstrokes. This is my very favorite way to paint.

I am proud to announce the release of…
