You Only Paint Dogs?

I get this question more than any other. ‘Can you only paint dogs?’

I can understand why this question is asked so often, since I have branded myself as a pet portrait artist. The short answer is, ‘No, I can paint anything'. I know that sounds like hyperbole, but it’s true. I can paint anything. From people to food to abstract works - anything. Any subject matter you can think of, any animal you can conjure up. Realism, abstract, I can do it all.

My medium of choice is oils. I also paint with acrylics when I paint live at various events and venues. Acrylic dries very fast, and is perfect for a live setting, but it’s unsuitable for how I can capture the animal’s likeness and spirit in the commissioned pet portrait paintings I create.

I can understand how someone might think I only create dog paintings based on looking at my work on this website. When people commission me to create pet portraits, it’s mostly of dogs. That’s what comes in the door, so that’s what I paint.
